Have had a Massy 3366 trackloader here our n. wis farm for a numder of years. has worked out real well for us. 75HP in a 10 ton machine with about a 1 1/4 yd bucket. Lost engine oil preasure recently. Combine that with other problems, I'm not going to fix it. What would you guys recomend to replace it? Cat is usually a sure bet but pricey. Thanks

If you just need and old farm machine and are working on a limited budget (say, no more than $15K), then I'd get an old International from the 60's-80's with a 4-1 bucket. You can get a TD9 Drott loader in good shape with 4-1 for about $6000-$9000. Or a later model 125 loader in similar condition for maybe a few thousand more. All of these machines are the same size and power as what you already have. A step up from that in size and power is the 175B and 175C. If you shop around you can find a good 175C with 4-1 for about $15K, maybe less if you're lucky. These machines are very decent and capable loaders.

Also if you want reliable, tough and cheap, then you can also go with an AC machine (HD4 or thereabouts). These things are tough as nails and use the detroit diesel motors which are loud, but reliable and parts are abundant for them. Harder to find one with a 4-1 or powershift though. From what I've heard parts are still available and for reasonable prices.

I have a 1988 Komatsu D41S for sale. Has 39XX orginal hours, 90 hp, 4in1 bucket, about 40% bottom, weighs 12 tons, I've had it for 10 years and haven't had any problems, it's a sweet machine.

I think the 450 JD's are fairly good. I've got a 931B Cat loader that works good. Cat parts can be rediculously expensive (JD's can be as well) but the nice thing is that almost everything you would ever need is readily available. Used parts are also available for Cat and JD's. Not sure how much you want to spend. What ever you do pay a mechanic to inspect the machine and make sure you can run it for a while. This could save you thousands of dollars. A hydrostatic machine like a Cat 943 or bigger 953 or JD 655, 755 are way faster and sometimes can be found for a reasonable price. Repairs can be really expensive but one mechanic told me that the hydrostatic machines either work or they don't so if you try one out and everything works good it probably is. Getting fluid samples tested can tell a lot also. I hope this helps you. I think it's best to buy a popular machine. Cat's usually have a little higher resale value and some people say their transmissions are better. Dave
