My Dad's 2010 just seized (He'd been pouring in the oil, but under the work it's been doing it was burning it faster than he thought). I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to remove the engine - we've done cars, but this is going to be a challenge. A tripod obviously won't cut it!

If anyone's got any tips, I'd be more than happy to hear it! We're going to be up to our elbows this weekend trying to figure it out and get this thing back in service...

Never removed one yet. But I will say BUY a hydraulic engine lift. Mine goes to 4 tons short boom lenth or 2 ton long. The reach is amazing on it. $100 at Tractor Supply Co. (TSC). A air powered one with manual jack is $130 ro so. I never needed air and Im cheap haha. Get a engine stand too, much easier to work on the engine that way as it will rotate the motor for you. They have adjustable engine mount brackets and adaptors can be made cheap if needed. They are around $50.

$150 in tools isnt much considering the cost of a block if you drop or chip it.

Thanks John-Paul,

We"re actually going to take the engine in for servicing - it"s beyond our skill set to repair. Yesterday we actually rigged up the block and tackle. We raised the bucket to about 6ft and have built up blocks etc under it to stabilize. We set a heavy beam from the bucket across to another beam across the lift arms and suspended the block from it. We"ve got a chain ready to bolt onto the engine and we should be able to disengage the engine, and carefully pull it forward and out.

We definitely don"t want to drop it! WIsh us luck!

I"ll post a "how it went" once I know... haha
