I need to remove the ROOSER MASTER fuel injection pump from a 1970's Case 580CK with a 188 diesel engine. I understand I need to line up timing marks on pump so I can put it back on without a hassle. My pump is on left side of engine and I can see a plate or cover on left side of pump, but my book shows timing window cover on right side where feul shut off arm and linkage are. It is so tight on that right side I can't see if there is even a window there. Is this plate on the left side the timing window? Any tips on removing pump would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

The pump is driven by a tapered keyed shaft to a gear in the timing train, you will have to remove the plate attached to the front of the timing cover to gain access to the nut on the pump drive shaft, the gear has match marks with the idler gear that drives it,turn over the engine till the marks line up,slaken the retaining nut and pull the gear from the taper, keep the gear in mesh with the idler gear, undo the pump flange nuts and the pump will come off, there should be match marks on the flange and the timing cover, the marks you mention through the window are for checking the fine timing from the pointer on the flywheel,I never do it that way.you need to have room to access the front of the engine to have room to attach a puller and see the gear marks.I've put a picture of the setup at the link below.
