I seen one for sale by some farmer the other day. I thought i'd pull in to take a closer look and man is that thing huge!! I didnt' know massey made backhoe's that big! I'dunno what the guy was asking for it but it appeared to be a two wheel drive, and the backhoe had six control levers (i'm assuming two for the outriggers and four for the actual hoe operation). If the price was right I'da bought it just so I could bask in it's hugeness...lol...and it didnt have that four stick control...i'm a two stick man myself!

My neighbor had some MF 70's and the 80 was very similar but bigger. It's got a 6 354 engine like the 450S excavators. Very good engine. The 70 was a good strong machine and had great lifting power. The 80 lifts even more. 9000lb. breakout on the 70 and 12,000lb. on the 80. The 80 with rops and no cab has a shipping weight of 22,010 lbs. It has a 1.5, 1.75 or 2 yd. loader bucket and the backhoe has a 18ft. 4 in. digging depth. I think they could be ordered with either a 2 lever or 4 lever backhoe control valve. When the water truck got stuck in the ditch beside our driveway with a full 3000 gallons he thought he'd need another truck to pull it out. We told him the neighbor had a pretty big backhoe. Put a chain on the front bucket and backed up on the packed snow and pulled the truck out without even spinning at all. The neighbor said he could drive through snow filled ditches with it because it was so heavy. The 70's were fairly popular. I've seen an 80 and they are huge. I would suspect that like a lot of MF industrial machines they were ahead of their time. It's sad MF no longer makes industrial machines. They had a lot of good designs. Dave
