Track master pin question

I have a '73 Fiat Allis 11-B dozer. I need to split the track, but the tracks seem very strange to me. The chains are stamped with the Fiat Allis logo, but the pins ALL have hole drilled on each end, except for one with no holes at all. Same on both sides, although the inside of one of the smooth pins is welded. So ok, this is obviously the master right?

But the manuals I have all state that the pins should have no holes drilled, except for the master! So, what gives? The machine is in excellent condition, hardly used. Could this be a rebuilt track, and some shop just does it that way?

thanks,
josh

I think that someone put sealed and lubricated chains on your machine and had to shorten the chains to do so,S&L chains has a hole in every pin for to put the oil in on assembly, the hole is deeper than the dimple of a regular master pin, maybe the unmarked pin was used so it could be found again,as its the odd one out its the one I would drive out,use a decent piece of bar to make a drift to knock the pin out and weld a handle to it so the person thats holding it keeps his fingers.

A track shop pobably replaced the pins and bushings at some time in the past. Usually we have to put a weld on the master pin after it's been in and out a couple of times, the holes in the link stretch just enough it won't stay in. Get a torch and cut just enough off the pin boss so you can see a line where they meet. Now get a bfh and hit the end harder than you have ever hit anything in your life. You will need a pin driver and some one to hold it. Be Careful, I almost broke both my operators legs in one hit when he let the pin driver slip.

Checking for a sealed track in reply to farmall 400, 09-21-2007 03:03:26
I thought it might be sealed track, but the holes in the pins look more like centers for a lathe. I thought perhaps some track rebuilder made new pins on a lathe? Is there any other way to check for sealed track?
