GM two-stroke-cycle diesel is one of easiest to find parts for, new or used. I've got several. HD5 used a 2-71 (so did the original and rare HD-3), HD7 used a 3-71, HD10 used a 4-71, HD14 and HD19 used a 6-71, etc.
The Detroit Diesel is based on the first diesel engine - invented years before Rudolph Diesel's engine. A guy named Clark invented it, and GM bought the design years later.

You'' also be able to find a lot of guys knowledgeable about these engines locally and nationally, in case you end up having questions about them.
