I recently became the owner of a 1835b case skid steer nice machine but the chain and sprockets are wore out, is there a cheaper way to replace these or is case the only way to go? thanks

One thing I"am concerned about is putting new chain on old sprockets ( how bad do the sprockets need to get before they will damage new chain). The machine seems to be in good shape(5200 hours) but there"s something about putting $2,000 into a 24 year old skid steer.

If you are familiar with tracked equipment you may know how the track chain wears the sprocket? The cups of the sprocket get wide and the points/tips on the sprocket get ground to a sharp edge when thoroughly worn out.

Look for things such as this when judging sprocket replacement. Chances are your sprockets are ok as an oil bath slows the wear tremendously.

There does come a point when it is no longer cost-effective to repair a machine but thats a case by case (no pun intended, lol) basis. Good Luck to you.

The sprockets may be a Case item but a good industrial supply place will be able to save you some money on the chains.

Dont go for the cheapest chain available however, I replaced all 4 chains in an 1840 with chain I purchased from Bailey's and it lasted about 2 weeks and it broke one and the rest were stretched to an unbelievable degree. Of course the chain was from China and it was less than 1/2 price I had been giving but it definately cost more in the long run.
