Thanks for taking the time to read this. I've got a Case 580D backhoe with the case 207D diesel engine. I just noticed recently that there is water in the oil. I've got a service manual I looked through, but it doesn't specifically address this problem. I'm thinking the only place this could happen would either be through the head (either bad head gasket or cracks, etc.) or cylinder liners, am I right? Engine runs GREAT, not much smoke, starts every time on first crank. Any other places that could mix oil and water that I'm not thinking of? Any opinions would be appreciated. thanks! Daryl

I have a 580 that had water in the oil and it entered through the freeze plug under the valve cover.

Doubt if its your head or head gasket as the engine would be overheating,if coolant could leak in the compression would leak out it been at much higher pressure, the most likely place for coolant to leak in is the seals on the bottom of the liners or a cracked liner low down, remove the oil pan and have a look.

Take raditor cap off with engine running and see if there are any bubbles present, if so look at the head gasket or head
