Does it matter where you position the master pin to drive it out or where it is to drive it back in?

Having lost my the vision in my right eye from this operation I felt I need to say " please wear safety glasses or better yet goggles).Piece of the pin shattered and took out my right eye.thank you, Bill M.

Go to the link below for a picture of an easily made tool for knocking out m/pins, a few bits of slotted bar,piece of pipe and a piece of heavy bar that is just a little smaller than the pin,

I try to drive them out on the sprocket, about 18 inches above the ground. I have on occassion did it on the ground when I am aone, I put a peice of 4X12 flat under the punch holder and stand on the handle to keep it steady. hard on the back swing sideway that low! some time I drive the pin back positioned on the Idler but I have found it is easier once I get the two ends to meet to slip a bar in the link and let it roll back on the sprocket to about where i took it apart. one
