Hi. I really need help. I just purchased a early 60"s TD9D, with the straight six diesel, and it is leaking below the paterpump, out of a half circle indentation. Is that a freeze plug below the waterpump? There is a hole in the indentation nd water is coming out in a stream. If it is a freeze plug, can it be changed in the crawler, It looks like the front timing cover has to come off? Please help!

I had a problem with a freeze plug that had a small hole in it over a year ago, like yours half of it a s behind the front cover,I drained the coolant and cleaned the plug area best as I could given the space, used air and blew all the debris away, went to the truck spare shop and got a tube of Fix Leak (UK brand),it comes with a hardner, mixed it and packed it into the plug making sure it went into the hole and left it to harden, its held since, the Fix Leak has to be water resistant, body filler is not.

It does not look good, to replace the freeze plug you have to remove the front cover then remove the plate behind the cam gear, injector pump gear and idler gear. Probably easiest is to remove radiator and pull cam out.May consider a redwood stick to drive in hole, not much room behind freeze plug 1/2" then cylinder wall.Maybe JB weld. Try anything before pulling engine down for a ????? freeze plug.good luck (just finished rebuilding the motor on my td9b)
