anyone know where the serial number is on this machine, how many digits are in it.

You can also ckeck the frame rail onn the left side, just behind the front cap. It is usually stamped in here.

Have a little serial number book, for 850 says:
EARLY prod: Machine ser #: Front of operators left hand arm rest...Eng ser #: rt hand side of engine.
LATE prod: PIN: Front of operators rt hand arm rest...eng same as early prod.
Don"t know how reliable this is; book supposedly made up so road cops could check ser #"s on suspicious looking outfits. Let me know if you find it. Good luck.
