There should be a sight gauge (ie clear tube) to the right of the hydraulic filter,it may well have been painted over,if you over fill the tank it will come out the breather in front of the right side of the windscreen, that model of a JCB was a SOB to fill with hydraulic oil as it had to pass through the filter,to bypass the filter you need to take the spring out of the bypass valve, look down below the bottom of the filler, you will see a big plug facing you, remove the plug, take out the spring, put the plug back, start the engine and stop it again, take off the filler and fill in the oil,put the spring back,do not start the engine with either plugs out as the oil would be pumped out, some JCB"s had the sight gauge inside the cab in the front R/H corner at foot level, the rule of thumb with the filling of hydraulic tanks is roughly 3/4 full, the pin sizes on a JCB have always been the same old or new and all the bushes and pins are still available, you can buy the boss for the end of the dipper stick and weld it on,we used to strengthen the tilt linkage as it was a bit weak, yours must be going over centre if its locking, find the joints that are wallowed out and repair them.
