Didn't catch the "bolt bar" deal in the first post...DUH...I was thinking about repairing threads that were tapped directly into the bottom of the roller frame. If you've got seperate, removable bars and you've got them out of the frame and in hand why not simply get new bars cut to match the old ones. Then using the old ones for a guide and a centering punch mark the holes and put them back origional size. By the time you buy inserts, drill and tap the existing holes for the inserts, etc you'd probably come out just as cheap either way. Granted, money wise, this would depend on what type of material you needed and the cost of said material for the new bars vs the cost of the inserts, etc. When you look at it from a labor perspective as far as that part goes your drilling and tapping holes either way so why not go back with the origional size. Plus going back origional you don't have to worry about oversizing the holes in the rollers or anything else, you can reuse the good, origional bolts you've already got, saving the cost of new ones, and when your done you simply bolt everything right back like new.

Sounds good to me. Those tapping strips don't usually come out that easy.

Lots of options here.
Any repairs I have done for track frame bolts have been with grade 8 or better coarse thread. The fine threads just don't survive the rust and corrosion especially if never seize was not used and they tend to tear out the threads on removal. Theory is that fine thread has a better grip but I have not had any coarse thread come loose.

If you've got the tapping strips out, the holes can be welded up, re drilled and tapped....takes a jig though or you will loose alignment.

There's a difference between the term "thread inserts" some mean heli-coil thread inserts (not recommended for roller bolts) some mean the heavy walled double thread collar inserts that take a large o.d. threaded hole to install. These work.

The 9/16 oversize bolts work fine and the installation can be done without removing the tapping strips..... .or the next sized metric as AJ mentions would do the same thing.

Remember these bolt take a hell of a beating and require good anchoring.

Daaaah!! Just realized I've been saying 9/16 and mean to say 3/4. Obviously a smaller size isn't going to work. Makes the metric option the preferred choice. Sorry about that.
