Can anyone tell me where the hydraulic filter is located on a straight 450 JD dozer? Had moisture in the hydraulic oil so trying to change all the filters.

Its inside the oil tank to the right of the seat. Remove the top cover plate, roll up your sleve and reach down to the bottom of the tank and you will find it. Its a reuseable steel mesh strainer filter. Take it out and clean it up and put it back in the tank.

Wrong filter? in reply to JD4840, 11-07-2007 12:54:27
That metal filter isn't the main hydraulic filter - that's the suction screen. The main hydraulic return filter is on top. It's a paper cartridge and bolts upside down to the removeable top cover/restriction indicator.

When the hydraulic restriction indicator pops up and down - it means the paper return filter is clogged - not the metal suction filter. Thick summer-grade oil will also do it in cold weather.
