HI I HAVE A 1989 FORD 455 BCKHOE I CHECK THE OIL AND IT WAS WAY OVER FULL AND IM GETTING DEISEL FULE IN THE OIL. CAN THE INJECTOR PUMP LEAK IN THE CRANK CASE OR IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY IT MITE GET IN THERE. MY MANULE SHOWS A OIL RING BETWEEN THE INJECTOR PUMP AND THE GEAR, SO IS IT THE OIL RING OR IS THERE A SEAL IN THE INJECTOR PUMP. THANKS MIKE

I think your tractor has a Stanadyne rotary pump. The o-ring you mention has nothing to do with fuel sealing. The driveshaft in the pump has two umbrella seals facing opposite directions. One keeps engine oil in the engine, and the other keeps diesel fuel in the pump. It is very common for them to go bad and make your crankcase fill with diesel fuel.

To fix, the pump must come off - and at the least - the two new seals replaced - cost around $5. But . . . often the bronze bushing in the front of the pump gets ridges worn into it from the seals and needs to be replace also. A new bushing - called a "pilot tube" cost $10.

The most common cause is the diaphragm in the priming pump(Lift Pump)leaking, fuel can get into the oil from the injector pump,if you got an inline pump that is lubricated from the engine oil fuel can leak past the elements and get in the oil,if you got a rotary pump they are fuel lubricated and should the seal on the input shaft get worn fuel can leak into the engine oil,if you got a thermostart glow plug in the intake manifold fuel can get in there but chances are you would notice it as the engine would be smoking, test the priming pump by taking off the two pipes, put a piece of soft hose up against the inlet and the other end in your mouth, put your finger over the outlet and blow in,if you feel the air going away the diaphragm is leaking.
