I'm trying to figure out what is wrong with my cousins dozer. It pops threw the exhaust when it is warmed up and increases as you give it more throttle. If we crack the #3 injector it will stop popping. He has tried new injector and we think it may be a burnt valve.

It does puff a little white smoke when it pops. Any suggestions on what else it could be? 9u27*** is the only numbers i can find.

Does anyone know what year model it is? We are in the process of getting a manual. He hasnt had it very long and it only started doing this after he had to push start it with another dozer after it had sat for a while.

Could have bent a pushrod, broken a valve spring,or have a valve hanging up.

I had the valve cover off and i cant tell if the spring is broke everything looks good. We have a manual ordered. It is one from YT. There might be a little bit of a bend in a couple of push rods but cant really tell while they are still in the guides.

I was trying to se if maybe the valves were hanging wile it was running with the cover off but it is just too fast to tell. I have no way of testing the spring pressure.

If the valve adjustment doesnt help , guess it is time to pull the head.

I was told by a really good Cat mechanic that too much ether can cause bent push rods. If you must use starting fluid, use it sparingly. Dave

Thats what i told him , it could of kicked back from the either. They will also sheer the teeth off a starter or flywheel it it kicks back just right.

If it has a bad valve it will likely puff white all the time. Check valve clearance first. You have it narrowed down to the right cyl now anyway.

That serial number would make it a 1958 model.
