Some of you folks might remember the Cat combo I stole first part of the year, its a 2000 model 426D with 7600 hrs, havnt used it much yet but noticed that the starter seems strained when cranking unless I work the front bucket control(any direction) at which point it seems to relieve the strain on the starter. Also seems like the engine pics up a cpl of rev's from idle when I work the bucket control, any idea's would be appreciated...Don
P.S. anyone heard if LFC ever did anything with that old P&H crane?..I havent been on much lately

Oldcraneguy - good to hear from you again. I was wondering if you were still around!
I haven't done much with the P&H yet. My goal was to get it to the nearby HCEA annual convention this past July, but I finally figured by about May that is wasn't going to happen. I ended up taking my restored IHC 500E crawler instead, and had a great time at the show. Lots of cranes, but no P&H's.
I've started doing some haying here on our farm again, and it seems I spent most of my "free" time either getting my equipment back in shape or preparing a new lot to seed down (lots of rocks to pick). I'm almost caught up with fall chores, so if the weather holds up I might try to fiddle with the P&H some more. I'm affraid I'm going to have to pull the manifold to get the valves out and do a valve job, as the valves are really rusted up. I'll keep you posted as to my progress.

Don, I think the stand by pressure on the pump may be set too high. Maybe you better email me.
Later Bob

I'm thinking your hydraulic valve isn't centering properly or a seal in the valve is leaking pressure and is the cause of starter strain. Dave
