The old crawler has developed a pretty good leak near the front of the engine. After looking at the parts manual, it seems that it might be a "doughnut" between the head and the front cover. Can this seal be replace without removing the head? What is the correct procedure? Do these seals go bad over time, or is there another issue we need to address?
Thanks
Rich

When you replace the the rubber seal be sure to check the ferrule that fitts inside the seal most of them are plastic and if the engine has run hot it deforms the ferrule.

The 931 with a 3204 engine has something like that. It's a ring of rubber with a pipe inside and a hose clamp on the outside. If that is what you have, just loosen the clamp and lift it out. Drop in a new one and tighten clamp to expand it tight.

Bob
Thanks for the insight, I probably have the model number wrong but as you say it is a Cat 3204 engine. I will take another look, it is at my brother"s farm.

There's a big difference between a 951 and a 931. I know exactly what Bob is talking about. On my 931B, I thought it was kind of a hokey set up but it works. I remember talking to the mechanic about it because it looked like a wierd place for a hose clamp. Dave
