Hello! Need some advice. Just looked at a used bobcat 743 with NO engine. Everything else is there. Looks like it was repowered with a different engine at some point already since the engine mounts aren't factory. I know it had a v-1702 kubota new. Here is the deal, I have a running v-1902 from a carrier 18 wheeler reefer unit. It has a few more h.p. I know, but will it fit? Anyone ever tried this swap? Like a dummy I drove 2 hours with no tape measure. But I thought there was an engine going with the machine. I thought they said it needed engine work. They weren't kidding! Please offer any adivce...thanks!

Sounds like alot of "ifs" involved there... Do you really want to gamble all the time, effort and money ?? unless its free, then I'd look elsewhere.. I had a 743 that needed a flywheel as its used also as the cooling fan...As JCSin GA stated it would need if repowered, the flywheel cost me a little over 600 if I remember correctly.. Plenty of complete machines out there.

Thanks for the reponses. Unfortunately all the accessories are long gone. I think this thing was purchased at an auction and they are just trying to flip it. What I"m scared about is the hydraulics on the machine after I go to all the work of sticking in another engine. Who knows if it will move or not. As usual it"s another gamble purchase. That"s all I ever seem to be able to afford and I usually end up getting stung. lol! Oh well, I"m gonna think about it for while. I may have some more questions.

Yes it will work, Kubota no longer even makes the 1702 if you want to re-power a Bobcat with an original 1702 you will get a 1902 engine, however with that said it is desirable to have the original 1702 to swap parts off of they dont come ready to slide in.

Your going to need the flywheel, engine mounting plates, possibly the oil pan, intake and exhaust manifolds and probably other things I forgot. Good Luck

I think they might be the same block. I'm not real sure but I have a Thomas with a V1902. When my machine was brand new, the sticker on the intake manifold said V1702 so I took it to the dealer. They looked on the injection pump and it said V1902. That sticker is long gone but for a while I thought I got gipped. Check bore and stroke with a Kubota dealer. V1902 might just have a bigger bore.
