I have a 1952 D2 U model caterpillar and can anyone tell me why I am getting diesel fuel in the oil pan? It does't need to be running just turn on the fuel and in a while the oil level will raise.

If the transfer pump seals are leaking you should see dripping from the tell-tale drain line coming from the pump seal cavity.
Most likely it is the "O" ring seal between the filter tower and the fuel injection pump housing. These tend to dry out and allow fuel to drain down in the base of the filter tower and into the pan. There is also a similar seal at the other end of the fuel supply chamber that will allow fuel to leak into the governor. Best to replace them both when your in there.

Thank you I have put a new pump shaft and seal in and did not help. From what you have said I may need to taken off the whole pump and look at it again.

If your transfer pump seals are good then it has nothing to do with that pump. Talking about the seal at the vertical joint between the filter housing and the fuel injection pump housing (where the four injector pumps are mounted. You will have to remove the fuel injection pump housing and governor to get access. The "O" ring seal part # is 8B4967. Takes two, one at the filter/injection pump joint and the other for the plug at the injection pump/governor joint.

Thank you I have put a new pump shaft and seal in and did not help. Could the fuel filter chamber have a crack in it? What can I do to find the leak?
