I am looking at a 1978 IHC tandem axle dump truck with the DT 466 and 13 speed tranny.
It says 5000 on the hood not sure if PAYSTAR OR LOADSTAR.
Is this an ALUMINUM --doors hood fenders etc.??
Would appreciate any thoughts you guys have about this type of truck. Will use just for my own personal use and not concerned about lic. ins. and related costs.

A paystar 5000 is a very heavy spec. truck. You could get them with all wheel drive and even tandem tandem. I think they might still make them? Dave

Check the cab floor support channels from firewall to floor they often rot out. Also check for rust heaving the frame if it double frame. If all that looks good then keep in mind the power will be OK around town but it will fall on it's face when trying to keep up with hiway traffic. The DT 466 was always a good engine the older ones suffer from some blowby when the hours get to around 4000 and can also have liner corrosion problems like other diesels.

Some of IHC trucks in the seventies had the complete front clip made of fiberglass. They didn't rust out but they would crack from vibration.
