Hey Folks. I've got a Dynahoe ( I hear chuckling..) with a 453 Detroit/Vertical Muffler. The muffer is about gone & you guys know what kinda noise a sreaming Detroit makes even with a good muffler. Over at the Dynahoe Website they talk about mufflers for Dynahoes being pricey/$800.. What I'm looking for is to buy a simple vertical muffler from NAPA thats made for a 453 Detroit. Whose got a loader or a grader or whatever with a 453 Detroit that they got a replacement muffler for for a reasonable price so I can walk into NAPA ( Likely they ain't gonna have Dynahoe in their books...& if they do I don't want the $800 muffler...) & ask for a muffler from a whatever with a 453 Detroit & not get ( can you say raped here?) on the price. THANKS!!!!

Just go to the parts house with the inlet and outlet size and shazam. The muffler for a 5 inch in and out is only about $68.00 around here and all the vertical mufflers for trucks are either 8 or 10 inch and the same length unless you have some weird thing for size that will get them.or underneath mufflers.

There's a good chance the neighbors will chip in to help quiet it down. LOL !

I don't see many Dynahoes, but I once bought a junk JD parts backhoe from a guy that loaded it with one. That thing really had lifting power !

Check out the Donaldson web site. I"m all the time having to find a suitable replacement for an existing muffler that"s either no longer available because of the equipments age or it"s priced out of sight through the OEM no matter how old it is. I don"t have my book in front of me now and I didn"t look at their site enough to find the exhaust flow table but as long as you can find one with the right configuration and flow you"ll be fine. They also have a pretty good tech line, at least in my experience, if you feel the need to call. Good luck.

Heres proof that 4-53's dont need a muffler.Just kiddin.

This is my 4-53 powered Oliver 1950 with a $10 straight pipe on it for the tractor pulls.Thats not me driving that night.

Worthington Tractor Parts sells a new 1950 Oliver muffler for $49.50.

I work for a city garage ,we have Elgin pelican street sweepers .One had a bad muffler with a broke mount and was replaced. I took the bad vertical one and made a horizontal one out of it works good and was cheap. I would try looking at some tractor models at a dealership (mine was 4inch inlet I think)and getting a model then cross it at napa or a big truck/tractor place. Good luck Mark Anderson

We replaced some of the fancy under hood mufflers on some of our 4-53 powered stuff with a cheaper verticle muffler above the hood. I should have some part numbers at work, but I won't be back there until Wednesday.

Merry Christmas
