Go to the archives about 450 transmission problems..I and learned others have helped others with the pressure problem sometimes associated with the transmission..On yours, I would start out with a gauge to check HLR pressures..And speed of shift adjustments are there too...Roy

On the steering-clutch levers, there's no throwout bearing clearance to worry about since the steering clutches are hydraulically activated by the transmission pump.

You just want to make sure that at resta and for the first bit of travel - they allow full clutch pressure. And, when pulling back, the clutches fully disengage BEFORE the brakes start to grap. Easiest way to check is - drive the crawler up a steep slope. Then put it in forward - L with 1st or 2nd is fine- and go forward. While climbing forward, pull both steering levers back slowly. There should be a point where first the machine shops climbing, and when pulling back just a hair more -should start rolling backwards even though the foot-clutch pedal is up and all is in forward gear. If it doesn't roll backwards - then the brakes are grabbing too soon.
