Looking for pointers when it comes to how someone with knowledge about trac dozers would go about fixing a turning brake problem on a 1972 MF 2244 dozer. This is a small trac dozer with a 3-clyinder diesel emgine, 4 speed transmission, forward and reverse directional selecter. The basic tractor components are MF I presume, unfortunately, I am not experienced with MF or have repair books, even though I have owned it for 25 years, purchasing it used.

You can put the dozer against something solid and both tracks will dig away as long as the power holds out. Either track will pause when the steering levers are pulled independently or together. The problem is, it will not turn right when manuvering the tractor around in dirt. My guess is, the brake must not be working. When you remove the covers down in front of the final drive you can't see anything or imagine how or what to do even if you could get down in the confined space. I would ask you if there is a band in there and how can it be replaced or can you work on it without removing the final drive housing? Can't really tell or see how it works, much less going about tearing it appart without drawings. Is there a T-Bolt in there attached to the band or something, if so, something in there is broke surrounding a fairly big bolt that is apparently an adjustment of some kind. Any help would be appreciated.

There is a brake band adjusting nut under the cover.Right side often goes first,as most operators are right handed & use it more often.
After that long, you may need to adjust or replace clutch & brake parts. The final housing must be removed & is a pain of a job if you have condensation/rust in there.
I have two 2244 loaders dismantled here.
