The steering works somethimes, but only if I really step hard on the brake peddles and then not all the time. The left side stops the movement when you pull back also. Anyone out there know how to adjust the steering brakes and clutches on an AC HD 5? Also can you get books on it or buy steering clutches?

Thanks -John

John,
Head up a slight hill, pull both steering handles to their stops the tractor should stop and even roll back if the hill is steep enough. If it doesn't stop then one or both clutches are not releasing. If one is not releasing that track will continue to pull and turn the tractor. Both clutches must release for the tractor to turn correctly.

If the brake pedal goes to the stop then that brake needs to be adjusted. If the brake pedal doesn't go to the stop then the brake should work. With the tractor moving forward step on one brake and then the other. Each brake should slow the tractor and load the engine. If this does not happen then the brake is not working; worn-out, oil or grease on the band, etc.

Let us know what you find.
