Howdy. The right brake on my Komatsu D21P-6 hung up after sitting in damp weather about 2 weeks....like it was rusted up or frozen up....no weather that cold, tho. Had to shake machine back and forth a while, but it came loose. Reckon what happened? Is this common? Thing runs and handles / turns great. Everything seems adjusted perfectly....never did it before.

I have been following you adventure with the 21p over on the other forum. As you are learning, they can cause nightmaers and empty the pocket book fast. You might have had the brake on when you stopped it and there wasnt enough spring tension to pull it loose. It might be a 2 section brake band and the pins are rusty and not letting the sections flex. I assume they are dry brakes because wet brakes wouldn't do that unless there is linkage that is binding. Take the power blaster and make sure all linkage has free play. If the brakes have power assist, make sure the linkage from it comes back to normal off position If you have power boosters,
compare the right brake linkage travel to the left brake linkage travel. If there is a brake inspection plate to see into the housing, take a look, I like to keep some side movement on the band. Dont run it to tight, can wear them out quick. Bob W8LXJ Ohio

Thanks, Bob
I'll check those things out. I haven't really had any trouble with this dozer. It's old and beat up, but runs great. All the work equipment is rattling around, but it keeps on going.
Handles really well, too.
I remember adjusting the brakes awhile back and maybe I got 'em too tight.....but it doesn't reflect this when operating.....drive in a straight line.
Thanks and stay warm...ha ha
Pete
