hello all; looking at this 850g w/4800 hrs, use 2-3qts oil+ in 6-8 hr. day. my question is has anyone done in frame o/haul with good results at these hrs? yeah, bore is question--that can depend on care/maint, I replaced cyl. head on one once, broken exhaust port) had 5000+ hrs.cyls looked real good, but it had good care/products. lower ends seem to hold up well on these engines.well, i know you can pull an overhaul on anything with differant success,I was just wondering if its a common or uncommon thing for people that work equip to do this. thanks-paul

I have been looking for an old dozer to cleanup the farm I grew up on at my elderly father's request. I got a shot a 1965 TD20 with service records showing all the work done by a local dealer. Owner states the torgue converter needs work, confirmed by the dealer who has done all the repairs. Slips when it get hot. Otherwise machine in great shape On the other hand I looked at a 1150C Case with worn out tracks and rollers for the same money. Any advice for a novice on crawlers would be appreciated. ie strengths and weakness of the 2?

I would say that the engine has been abused rather badly.I work on several that have 10-12,000 hours on them and might use a pint of oil between services. It has either been overheated severely or has eaten alot of dust. Those engines do not have liners,so if the bores are scratched up,tapered or out of round it will require the engine being removed from the dozer and be rebored or a reman or takeout engine installed..You can usually confirm if it has been overheated when you pull the head, they crack between the valve seats. Also check the turbo for loose bearings and leaky seals.

thank you for response---yes compared to my dealing with hi-way version of this engine, i thought this was too early hrs. for oil consump. without some reason. turbo checked, no oil leaks whatsoever,no blowby---BUT more conversation leads to possible "slight overheating"-belt failure once--case closed-
