im interested in mounting some kind of ripper to a D4 5T model, so 45-47. I plan on using it for ripping in ground where trees have been removed. No redwoods or anything mostly pushed out hedge. Im guessing that the OE tool bar is like finding a needle in a haystack. Is fabricating one to mount on the rear going to tear up the rear houising. I was thinking of incorporating it to also pull from the drawbar pull point underneath not just the rear casing. what do you guys think?

also how many shanks and what kinda of depth could i expect from this machine. Is one or two shanks @ 12 inches to much to expect?

The later D4 "U" model transmission case (1956) is the same bolting as your 5T. Sounds like a correct unit. Be interested myself if it was in California or at least closer than what I suspect.

I'm curious as to how that works as the dead axle is not exposed on the D4. Is it off a different machine? Thanks

Over the life of the D4 there has been both scarifiers and rippers factory mounted.
The latest were the Cat #4, 951, 955 Model 58D1-up and 87H1-up and had five ripper pockets with teeth about 20 - 21 inches long (less mounting for projection)

The earlier HT4 (loader) had a seven pocket scarifier option with teeth about 14 - 16 inches long (less mounting for projection.

All had provision to tie the mounting frame to the draw bar mount under the transmission case.
