Does anyone have any idea why my TD9 starts easy on gas, then switches over to diesel properly, runs well on diesel, then when you go to switch back to gas, it shuts down. You can hit the starter immediatly, and it will start right back up on gas and run fine. Any ideas . Thanks Eddie

I appreceiate all the tips on why my TD9 would not switch back to gas after running on diesel. I tinkered with it for awhile and it works great now. Thanks Eddie Olive.

Pull the choke out about half way when you switch back to gas. Just Make sure you Kill it by pushing Compression release back in so start valves cool in their seats. The reason for running on gas at end of work is to burn diesel residue out and make starting easier so it only needs to run on gas till exhaust burns clear

stx, once the engine is switched to diesel the small gas valves close.the gas combustion chamber is cut of from the diesel side .there is no diesel combustion taking place here.that means you can remove spark plugs running on diesel and have no compression coming out while its running.how can plugs foul, idont think they run rich enough on gas to foul them, because they need lots of choke to start. any time i removed plugs they where not fouled.ihave lots of these tractors with these enginesand dont have that problem. i do agree that the gas evaporates out of carb while running on diesel.

After they run on diesel for a while, they tend to exhaust the gas in the carb. Throttle it up halfway or so on diesel and pull the gas carb choke out part way before you switch back to gas.

once its running on diesel there is no reason to switch over to gas .that supossedly causes more damage than good to those little tiny gas valves.if you leave them open on a hot engine this could cause them to warp.important to idle engine before shutdown.just wondering why your going to gas once your on diesel.but yes you could have a problem in your linkage.

The purpose of switching to gas was to happen only after the engine had idled to cool at the time of shut down , this would help keep the plugs from fowling. Then with the engine dead leave in the diesel position.

It's hard to describe but the first thing to check is the flipper linkage. It is a "<" shaped piece fastened to a rod that runs from one end of the intake manifold to the other. It activates the butterflies in the manifold that close off the diesel side. The rod on which this device is fastened may be sticking a bit but not noticeable on the initial start phase because it has enough time to "flip". However when switching from diesel to gas, the rod can't react fast enough to close the diesel manifold. As such there isn't enough airflow through the gas manifold to draw fuel into the engine.

Try lubricating each end of the rod, where it goes into the manifold. It's a bit difficult to see or get to without removing the hood.
