John, --- 4 / Feb. / 2008 ---

The basics;

The 500 Series crawlers were made at the IH Plant in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

500 (& 500D) 1965 to 1969; Parts Catalog TC-203A

500C (& 500C(D)) 1970 to 1974; Parts Catalog TC-205

500E (& 500E(D)) 1975 to 1976; Parts Catalog TC-210

The motor D 155 3 cylinders was made at the IH plant in Neuus, Germany.
The motor BC 146 4 cylinders was made at the IH plant in England.

You would need a parts catalog also for the motors as well the crawler.

FWIW--I've got one parts catalog that lists an "IH 500 Series C Crawler Tractor", which shows them with D-155 (a 3cyl) and C-146, (4cyl gas) engines. I have no idea whether they're drop-in replacements for each other, or whether there were other engine options available.
Other catalogs carried the 500 and 500C under IH "crawler loaders", not in their IH "crawler dozer" section--those catalogs showed all T/TD- numbers for "crawler dozers", and while one listed a TD500 with gas engine, the engine wasn't identified, and there was no T or TD500C listed (parts catalogs are always incomplete, and sometimes contradictory).
If no better info comes in, you might repost the question "will a C146 drop in for a blown D155" (assuming you have a D155). With sympathy, Bud
