Hello, I just purchased my first track loader, after many months of saving, researching etc. I bought a caterpillar 941 with about 500 hours on the engine overhaul and undercarriage replacement. Now, like most farmers, I'm wondering how I can not only do what I need done, but begin to make a little extra $ too. Assuming I get good on the thing, do you think contractors out there would be willing to subcontract to me if I had my own transportation, machine and insurance? I wouldn't mind giving them a 1/3 cut just to get the paid for practice. Any thoughts?

It is fine to do some side business with the track loader, however, you will not be covered on your farms insurance policy to use the machine for custom work. You will have to buy additional coverage for doing custom work with a dozer of any sort. Most contractors will probably require proof of insurance. I have no idea of the what the cost would be for this insurance and it could be quite pricy with the concern for buried phone and electric cables.
