I had to pull the engine to replace a failed new after market clutch disc. My helper disconnected the fuel line to the injector pump which was not necessary but it happened and of course it lost prime. I'm having a heck of a time getting it to re-pressurize. I got fuel squirting at that connection but so far nothing at the injectors. Any tips?

The Stanadyne/Roosamaster pump is self-bleeding. If air-free fuel is getting to it, it will prime itself. If it won't, you've got other problems.

Are you sure the injection pump is turned on?

In regard to "not needing to unhook the fuel-line" when taking the engine out - how the heck would you do that? Considering the tank stays bolted to the rear of the crawler, and the engine gets unbolted and comes out away from all else - seems something has to get unhooked unless you've got an extra ten feet of coiled-up fuel-line.

I mean the fuel line where it connects to the injector pump. That line connects back to the filter housing. I've had that engine out before and as long as the seal between the filter and injector is not disturbed it will fire right up. In this case it was what Roy suggested as a cause in the previous reply, fuel solenoid. The wire connector at the injector pump had failed. Replaced it with new connector and she fired right up. I didn't know to listen for that little click when turning the ignition key. Thanks Ya'll

A wire to the pump is exactly what I meant when I asked if you had the pump turned on , or not. Some 450s uses a mechanical shut-off, and some use an electromagnet - but both do the same thing - turn the pump "on" and "off" via the metering valve.

Are we sure that we have a full flow of fuel from the fuel tank ?? Many times I"ve run into crap being stuck in the shut-off valve causing a reduced or cut-off flow of fuel..If flow is good, see that the fuel transfer pump is actually pumping..It has a hand lever on the front side of the body for priming..If we have a manual shut-off on the injector pump, put the throttle at least half way open..If key shut-off , turn the ignition on..Loosen the steel line from transfer pump to injector pump and see that fuel is making it to the injector pump..Next loosen all the injector lines at least 2 turns...Crank the engine over in 30 second intervals till fuel bubbles and fuel flow are visable at the injectors..Close the lines off and it should start for you..Are we sure the injector pump shut-off solenoid is operational?? It should click as you turn the key on and off..
