1989 580K. Tach., Alternator gauges operate erratically. Sometimes work, sometimes don't. Where should I look first?

Thanks!

Check that the wiring loom that runs along inside the right frame member from the alternator via the starter to the console on the side, I"v had the loom grounding along parts ot that route, the voltage regulator would be the next thing to go for,get a new one and put it on,disconnect the battery while doing it,only two screws to undo and the reg and brushes lifts off.

Thanks, AJ. I'll check for grounds and try the regulator if no grounds found.
