Hi, I am looking to get a Cat 920 or 930 wheel loader. I live at 8500 feet, will these have enough power for this elevation? Can you put a turbocharger on these engines without great expense and hassle? Were the 920's/930's reliable, any years to stay away from? Thanks for your time

Hello, saw Your post. I am currently working on a 920 as We speak. They are great machines and that 3304 is a GREAT engine. My advice..... dont bother putting on a turbo, but if You do, configure it like the 100 K.W. Gen-set setup, turbo, after-cooler, a real hot set up but I am not sure Your going to need it especially if Your not looking to do production work.

I can't think of anything that I cant get for the 3304 engine family that is used in the 920/930 loaders. the 910, D3, 931 uses a 3204 which basicly is a 3208 cut in half. There were several configerations and some part are hard to find. but the 3304 I can get parts bot from cat and aftermarket.

Thanks for your replys. I have a couple of additional questions. What is the horsepower ratings for the 920 and the 930? I have seen from 80-96hp for the 920 and 90-100hp for the 930? Did the hp rating change over the years? Which loader compares to the JD 544?

the 920/930 family of loaders are very relialable. Yes you could turb one but they dont need it. you may need to get your fuel adjusted. it is accoring to where the machine came from. the engine is the same as a 941 /951 loader. parts are available so are used parts.

Check with Cat about parts availabity.I have a 910 loader, also Jap built and in the same family. I love it,had it for years. I sent the engine out to be rebuilt and no problems till they couldn't buy parts for the governor. Haven't found a shop to tackle it or a used governor/injector pump for less than $2500 as is. It sits as we look for parts....never had problem on Cat parts before.

Get a quote from Denver Diesel Injection Service.I had a Case pump rebuilt there at about a third less than everyone else. Did a great job,and really nice guy. I had to ship my pump in and he sent it back quick and he seems to know his stuff. I don't have the phone number, with me, but I found it in the MSN white pages

Wouldn't a D3 or 931 have the same set up? They're 3204 engines unless some 910's use a different engine? Dave

IPD has 3204/3208 parts. How good is the dealer? Doesn't make sense you can't get parts. 3204's used to be pretty popular. Dave
