Thankyou very much for the help and tips on what to look for.My housings are a mess of welds and reinforcements.I know of a 1010 being parted with good housings.Wanted to make sure they would fit before I take the plunge and buy them. They arent local so I cant match them up visually.I would really like to have a 350 with a 6-way blade .Was told to try and find a 350c because they had wet clutchs. Also Deere made a 400 dozer but very rarely see or hear anything about these.Any experiance with these?Again I really appreciate the help and advice.

According to the serial number that you listed, you should have the later "shallow dish" sprocket and heavier final. The steering clutch housings are different. It is my understanding that the early 1010 final housing will work with the late 440.

I was a Deere mechanic for many years - but can't say I have an answer for that one. I never tried to swap parts in that direction.

I do remember this. 1010 crawlers cracked steering-clutch housings something awful, and got upgraded to 350 crawler housings. So, any 1010 crawler alive today might have 350 housings in it.

Thanks,Looks like the 440 had the same problem with cracks. My housings on both sides are in bad shape.I should have researched what to look for on these before I bought it.Live and learn.

Generally speaking, all the Deere crawlers have some problems with that sort of cracking. The main issue is - that everything works together - clutch housings, side frames, engine-to-trans mounting, final drive mountings, etc. Over the years certain parts are broken, loose, missing, etc. When a crawler gets to that point - no one part is going to make it much better.

I just had a chance to buy a 350 dozer (diesel) with a 6-way blade. Looks good at a glance, starts and runs great, steers great, etc. The guy wanted $5000 which seemed cheap. I got looking close - and what a mess. Both steering-clutch housings had been cracked many times and welded. They were loose where they attach to the trans. case. Transmission was loose against the reverser case which can be a huge problem with 1010s and 350s. Both side-frames were missing bolts and both were cracked. Track frames were cracked and missing bolts where they attach to the cross-bar, etc. I really wanted to buy the crawler - but knew - that even though it ran great - it would soon fall apart. I also knew, that once I started tearing into it, the work could become almost endless and cost a lot of money. I passed on it. I've already got a crawler in my shop that I've spent two winters on - and it's not done yet.
