Generally speaking, all the Deere crawlers have some problems with that sort of cracking. The main issue is - that everything works together - clutch housings, side frames, engine-to-trans mounting, final drive mountings, etc. Over the years certain parts are broken, loose, missing, etc. When a crawler gets to that point - no one part is going to make it much better. I just had a chance to buy a 350 dozer (diesel) with a 6-way blade. Looks good at a glance, starts and runs great, steers great, etc. The guy wanted $5000 which seemed cheap. I got looking close - and what a mess. Both steering-clutch housings had been cracked many times and welded. They were loose where they attach to the trans. case. Transmission was loose against the reverser case which can be a huge problem with 1010s and 350s. Both side-frames were missing bolts and both were cracked. Track frames were cracked and missing bolts where they attach to the cross-bar, etc. I really wanted to buy the crawler - but knew - that even though it ran great - it would soon fall apart. I also knew, that once I started tearing into it, the work could become almost endless and cost a lot of money. I passed on it. I've already got a crawler in my shop that I've spent two winters on - and it's not done yet.
