I have 3 t-340's but by no means am I an expert. All I know is what I was told by a guy that bought a t-340 that I had bid on at an auction and he got. He bought an engine from a parts supplier and it Did Not Fit because the tractor is different than the crawlwer. How I'm not sure.

I have several t340 & td340's & a IH 404 gas. I do know that the gas models both have a C135 casting # on the block. The 404 has an external hyd pump & the t340 has an internal pump but the t340 has a plate bolted over the external pump mount area.I'll take a closer look & see if I can detect any other visual differences but I think the gas version of the C135 gas is the same until someone shows me the difference.

The blocks on a crawler are cut to fit between the frame rails they are round on a tractor

I was under the impression that some of the IH farm tractors of the same vintage used this engine. That's what one of the dealers told me. I would check with the Case/IH ag division. I have the diesel version of the TD340, and I had the same impression about that. Certainly I have gotten engine parts from Case.

The crawler block is all by itself.
