I have a problem sorting out CASE model numbers for backhoes but only need to be able to sort out the CASE 580 L series machines.

I have just purchased a second hand 580SLE built 1996 in France and need to now if the S is for Super and what does it stand for? Is the E for the extendahoe feature and is the unit a Series 2 model or not? I assume the L is for the L model.

Most references in the US for parts or manuals refer to 580 super L and often series 2. But rarely if ever 580SLE.

serial number is CGG0160412.

Hope someone out there is able to help. I'm located in Australia but would be happy to ring if it is too difficult to reply by e-mail.

Jeff

It would be my guess that the E is for Europe as we had them here in the UK with the E on the end without the extendahoe, give your serial no to the dealer and he should know what you got,the parts on line does not list an E it would be my guess again that it would be a supplement, the road going regulations been different than the US and the like, you just will not see any machines of any make here with a fixed axial backhoe they are all side-shift,the L"s are good machines and were very popular here with owner drivers, should you have a hose rupture around the swing tower replace it with a Case replacement hose that will have the ferrules in the right place and put the securing brackets back on properly they will stay nice and tidy and will not be chaffing each other, good luck with your investment.
