Any experts out there on these hydrostats? I just bought one cheap that looses all transmission pressure under a load. Pressure is about 250 pounds without a load. The unit has 10,500 hours on it and I know nothing about its history. Does it definitely need two new transmission pumps or are there sometimes simpler, cheaper fixes?

Are you looking at the dash gauge and determining that the pressure is dropping off ?? That gauge shows the lowest oil pressure of the 2 control circuits..Take up your floorboards and watch the driveshafts as you load down the transmissions..If the driveshafts slow or stop turning when loading the transmissions, I believe there's a clutch disc on the flywheel that might be slipping..It's been many years since I've worked on one so be patient..Another thing that might be happening is the charge pressure that controls the control oil pressure might be leaking somewhere internally..There are also pulldown adjustments that control how much rpm the engine will pull down when loading the driveline pushing dirt..You can make it aggressive and pull the engine way down or wimpy and have little or no pull down and the transmissions will sort of give up pushing..If memory serves , isn't there a "T" handle on the right of the operators seat that controls the pull down...I think if it's pulled ,the transmissions will stall the engine..Take your hydrostatic filters out and cut them apart..Snip out a piece of pleated paper from the filter and see if there's brass chips in it..If so, the rotating group in either the pump or motor are damaged..That's all I got...Anybody else got an idea??
