I have an old Cat D3B and the front blade does not always want to raise when I need it to. It kind of bumps up when it does raise. Is there any way to bleed the lines to remove air?
What is a good Hydraulic Fluid to use? I can"t find 10W that the owners manual recommends.

I appreciate all the responses I have received. Today I noticed on the left front arm for the blade a round piece of metal. It looks like a set of encased bearings. My owners manual and parts book doesn't show any of these parts. It looks like these bearings should be seated inside the valve casing where the arm extends and retracts. I could be loosing fluid and pressure at this part. I guess I'll have to search for information on blade repair. I'm not sure what the name for the valve on the arms is.
Any idea where I can get pictures and repair info for my problem?

Check your hyd. fluid level. It sounds like it could be low. Dave

You can use the same oil in the hyd as you use in the engine. Powershift Trans needs TDTO4 or equivilent.

Terry, depending on which part of the country you are in, if it is cold than you best to stick with the 10w oil, but if you are in temps above say 25dec cel you can always use 430 (30w) with out any problems. as for removing air from the cylinders the most practical way is to make sure you have enough fluid in the hyd tank, and just work the implement up and down until it stops jurking. best of luk Gary.
