Has anyone replaced the Idler seals and bushings on a case 450B if so do you have to take the track apart to get Idler off or can you just bleed it off as far as it will go? How hard is it to get the shaft out? I used to be a heavy equipment mechanic but have not worked on 450 before did not work on many dozers some 350 jd but not the tracks. Thanks for any help Thomas.

You will have to break the track. Alot of times if the idler has been run awhile with the seals out,it usually eats up the shaft and sometimes cuts up the boss in the idler pretty much rendering it useless. You may want to have a source for a new idler or good used before you tear it down.It is usually cheaper than having the old one welded up,line bored and new shaft, seals etc installed in a partially worn idler.

If the idler is not worn can I replace the seals or does it take special tools?
