I need a little more help with the A-179053 seal installation in the 480D. This is the small seal that goes behind the deff. lock. I have the seal out and I ordered two seals because my parts book calls for TWO. There was only ONE seal and I know work was done on this brake assembly. I have seen some seal applications that required two seals back-to-back. What advise could you give?--THANKS--

If you had the hollow gear off and had the Case seal driver,it has a shoulder that goes up against the gear when the seal is in far enough,if the cross shaft is still in place you could not use that driver, put it in the same distance and just make sure its square,I never worried about getting them exact but all you need for a driver is a piece of pipe that has a square end and put a line on it for the depth and tap it in to the line.
Good Luck

Thanks---I am a tool and die maker and I make all special tools needed. I have installed the new seal with a simple driver made from a short piece of automative tailpipe. I only had to take about .010 off the OD. After installation it is exactly where the original seal was located. What comes to my mind is that the seal has possibly been replaced and may have been installed incorrectly. I am sure you know what I am talking about. The brake discs were replaced and ,of course, I don't need this seal to leak. You have been a great help on this job.

Thought so. Just feel better with your opinion! What puzzles me is that I miked the depth of the old seal and it was .800 deep. There is no step to limit the seal. In other words the seal does not bottom out. I have installed hundreds of seals and never ran into this. --THANKS AGAIN--
