Looking at purchasing a small dozer for the hobby farm, whats the difference between the d3c LGP and d4c LGP dozers, they appear to be the same size machine only 10 more horse power difference, am I missing some thing, why two machines the same size? There must be a good reason CAT makes two machines the same size. I am not a dirt contractor so I am asking you for your advice.

They're both grading size tractors, if they are LGP types with the wider track pads, they have lower ground pressure than narrow track pads, main purpose is workin on soft/wet ground, don't get me wrong, they can get stuck just the same.

I'd think you would have to reference the 2 actual series of these tractors for any input on comparing each, both are really grading tractors, smaller jobs, finish work, light clearing and grubbing, small roads, driveways etc. HP may not be as important as overall balance, not sure if one has a longer track frame than the other, have ran plenty of 3's, 4's even those 4H's ( high track ) never had a problem grading with either, no idea about inherent design problems with these, as far as mechanics go, best to see if there is any known history of either machine from the sellers, on maintainance, previous use etc.
