I bought a TD-9 parts tractor with a new barely used undercarriage. I have sandblasted and painted the two chains to use on my TD-9 as they have very little ware. I was wondering if there is any trick to freeing up frozen links on the chains as the crawler had sat out in the weather for years. I have not put the chains on yet and thought someone might have some ideas on freeing up the links, before I install them. Thanks Eddie Olive

If the chains are laying flat on the ground, find used hydrulic oil and start spraying the pins and bushings. If you have a tractor or the other 9 is running, hook a chain to one end of the tracks, pull them back over themselves, coil them in a circle, drag them in S curves, anything to get them to bend , twist sideways and running over them with the dozer. Some have said, drag them down to the creek and let them lay in the water and let them lay under water for a few days. Heat is the last resort. Bob
