I have a 350 JD Dozer that the track locks up on the left side specially when on a hill side. Then it makes a loud noise and dirt will fly off the track and it will be okay. Whe it locks up from the front idler to the carrier roller the track is tight , but from the sprocket to the carrier roller the track ios really loose with a big sag on top of it. Help!!

Lets be a little more specific. Are you going up hill, down hill, or perpendicular to the hill? Assuming you are running perpendicular, up hill or down hill track? Does this only happen on hills? Does it do this on both sides? If your are on level grade, going backwards, cut machine hard at right angle then go forward does it do it? You say there is 100 hours on the undercarriage. How many hours on the drive sprocket? How many hours on the pins and bushings, which hold the track links together? Were the bushings replaced or turned? Is the track frames securely mounted to front crossbar, and aligned at rear crossbar? On 350B, where track frame bolts to front crossbar, they were designed to float. Don't know about 350, but if they also float, if the bushing are wore-out it is hard to keep anything aligned. Alignment is done at the rear crossbar. If aligned properly, but bar, or brackets, or caps securing crossbar, are worn bad, tracks will wander in and out of alignment. This will usually be the problem if you notice sprockets have been rubbing on inside of back bottom rollers. Are the tracks adjusted properly? Your problem has all the symptons of sprocket climbing on bushing, or more likely the track rail.

Hi, thanks for all of the info. I am going perpendicular on the hill, with left side lower, going forward, the left side locks up. Seems to only happen on hills. Only does it on left side. I bought it after the undercarriage was installed by the JD dealer in Portland. I loaned it out, and when I got it back, one of the track pads on the left side is up about 1-inch when it comes around to the top. I will check out the alignment with your suggestions.
Thanks,
Jim

That pad that is up 1" isn't hitting the mount for the rops is it? That is if you have a rops. On my 350 the track bars are close to the mount.

Bingo!! That is the problem. I had loaned it out and when it was delivered back the track was caught under a plate on the trailer while unloading it,and it has been bent since. Any ideas how I will fix it? Thanks a million for the info, I would have been still looking.
Jim

Think I would take that one off and see what a hydraulic press would do. Glad you found the problem.

Think I would have a real close look at everything when you see this starting to take place. Doesn't make sense that the upper roller would be catching on something, is there something stuck in chain links? Be safe.

Thank you for the info. The undercarriage only has about 100 hours, but I will check to see if something is hanging up.

Sound like it is partially running off the idler then slipping back on. You may want to check your bottom rollers to see if the flanges are worn off,the idler is worn,or the pins and bushings are getting worn internally,or the tracks are too loose. Any of these will let the track jump off.

Thanks for the info. The undercarriage only has about 100 hours on it, the idlers and rollers are good, I couls notice the idler is pulled back toward the sprocket so it must have depressed the spring. The track is tight from the carriage roller to the idler, but loose from the carriage roller to the sprocket. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jim

Is the carrier roller tower twisted or cracked? Are the bearing still good in the carrier roller?
You said there is only 100 hours on the undercarriage so its either new or rebuilt. When re-installing the sprockets did the shims get put back properly or at all?
Something isn't lining up there on the top side. Everything from the idler to the carrier to the sprocket should be straight as an arrow. If it were, your chain/track wouldn't be binding up and snapping back like that. Be extra careful when working around tensions like that!
Good luck
