371N Detroit won't rev up/help?

Looking at a 371N Ddetroit that has sat for a long time, started maybe every year or so. It will start with a shot of either, run at a fast idle forever but won't rev up. The first thing I thought was siezed blower. The owner says the 371N designation means natural/no blower. Any old Detroit I've ever seen had a blower. This thing is vintage 1968. Anybody out there have any ideas before I go look at this machine with the idea that I want to buy it but don't want to invest a ton of money fixing up a back yard toy?

If the blower is stuck, it won't run at all.
You might have governor problems, but be very careful when you mess around with anything to do with it, because it might 'run away' if you make a wrong adjustment somewhere. Always be ready to trip the intake shutoff door when you fire it up!!!

Stuck injector or governor linkages. "N" designation does mean natural air but that only means it does not have a TURBO, all 2-stroke Detroits I'm aware of had a blower.

I think you got it Tractorman.
Those injectors stick and used to cause runnaways but they put in spring loaded rack levers to save the engine.
Sounds like one is stuck and will not let any of them go to full fuel to rev up. Later Bob

Also you might want to check the governor linkage to the equipment the engine powers. I have a 371 in a compressor, and the compressor speed control is hosed so it won't let the engine rev above a fast idle, but if you disconnect the compressor speed control, and manipulate the engine throttle manually, it will rev to full power. The other thoughts, fuel rack, etc are good, too. The "N" in 3-71N refers to the injector. No 71 will run without a blower.

every Detroit has a blower they cant run with out it. Check to see if the emergency shut off is tripped it is on the blower intake a little lever with a spring loaded trip on it. next pull the valve cover and see if the rack is free. If the blower was siezed it would not run the fuel supply pump is driven from the blower
