MY Uncle has owned an M Farmal on Propane since 1961. He didn't know how old this tractor was till i asked what the serial # was, which is FBK2241 on clutch housing and same # on motor. This tractor has 38in. rims and pipe seat.Shouldn't it have 36in. rims and straight chanal seat with indention in rear housing cover? Also the propane unit looks like a 1948 M in the Farmall M Archive book. When did they start putting this conversion on M's. Hope some one has answers to all these questions . Thanks. Buck

Buck, If your M has the "pipe" seat support, does it
have a coil spring and shock absorber ? If so,
this is most likely an optional Monroe seat. I have one on both my '49 M and '49 C. There is also one on my '39 Allis-Chalmers RC. Very nice
option as the ride is far superior to the standard
seat.

Hope this is helpful,
Phil

Phil, This tractor has the old curved pipe type seat with no coil spring or shock. I do have a 46 H with curved pipe seat that someone put a shock on . Works real good. Thanks for all the replys. I saved the part sheet and diagram on channal seat. Buck

All M's had 38 inch rubber, as did all H's, that is, all the ones on rubber did. Some early and WWII era tractors were on steel. I can't help you about the propane conversion.

look at the following link.. this shows the tire/rim combinations for the 39 H and M. All 39 H or Ms came out on 36" rubber, unless on steel. A majority of those coming out on rubber, had split rims also.. the 39 seat assy is also shown on this link also.. As for the propane attachment, it was an add-on, IH mever made a propane M, but did make propane super Ms..

I'll correct an error I made in the above reply.. 39 H and Ms on rubber had 36" tires as a standard.. the 38" were optional, as with the 40". (the 40" was for the dual wheel attachment) sorry for the error
