Super A oil seal question

I am replacing the upper oil seal (on steering shaft) on my gearbox on a Super A. My Super A had two seals here with no legible #'s. I read a post on here that says seal number IH-48956-D or 86956-D are the correct seal but neither National or CR can cross either of these numbers. Can anyone help? My local bearing house measured my old seal as good as he could and sold me a National #473380 for this application. Does anyone know this to be correct?

I-H # 48956 D crosses to Victor #66247 Shaft Dia. 1.000, O.D. of seal 1.630, width .250, I can not cross the National #. Victor # 46431 has the same dimensions and type of sealing lips

The National seal the bearing house gave me is #473380, its dimensions are id-1.000, od-1.575, thickness-.250. This is the same as you mention except the od. This national seal feels like the same od as the seal I removed from the tractor. Maybe it is right and the number I found on the internet that you crossed wasn't correct to begin with. Can you cross the 86956D number to anything like National, Victor or CR? Thanks for your help.

Sorry but only # I could cross was the I-H 48956 D #. I am using a 1982 Victor oil seal catalog. Parts house or bearing supply house should be able to help.

Thanks for your effort. Is the Victor oil seal line the same people as Victor gaskets (Dana Corp.)?

I would say yes. Both names are on catalog.

They measure seals all the time, and this one is hardly critical so I wouldn't worry. Grease works well in steering gear boxes and does not leak.
