What's a cylinder head drain trough?

On the F20s and 30s, there's a slanted trough made of some light metal that sits in a square
coolant hole in the top of the block on the cam side. My f20 had it in place when I rebuilt the motor. My F30 is torn down for a rebuild but this part is not in the block (It probably fell out someplace when I was moving the block around). Question is, what's it suppose to do, and is it
an essential part? I doubt if it's available, so
should a replacement be made? Any help on this would be appreciaed.

Bruce, I think that is part of the oil return system to direct oil to a hole where it can drain back to the oil sump. I don't know if they are critical or not, but, after going to the work of a rebuild, I wouldn't take a chance on leaving it out.
