My manuals have not been delivered yet and I have only had about 15 minutes "in the saddle" of my 41 M since it was delivered two weeks ago. I know it has five speeds, but due to the slop in the shifter, I'm not sure of the pattern. We're going back to the farm this week and would like to spend some quality time on my M. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks in advance.

Our M, 400 & 560 all had the problem of geting stuck in two gears. All we did was weld up the end of the shifter & grind back to right shape.

jiM, Sammy the Red and D2 -

Thanks for the responses - I'm having some minor sinus surgery Wednesday and the doc said it would be fine to go to the farm for a week or so to recuperate. Its hard to turn down good medical advice like that so I hope to have some time to get to know my M better. I'll be careful shifting. Thanks again. Bama Red

Hey Bama Red, just in case you do get the dreaded curse of stuck between gears it might be a good idea to go back in the archives and print out a few follow up responses to this problem. I had my M for two weeks and this happened and the fellers guided me right through. Note: all you need is a long screw driver to fix it.

Enjoy the '41

Welcome to red stuff. A caution: if your gear shifter has a lot of play and is hard to figure out just which gear it is in (or near), I would recommend you change gears very SLOWLY and distinctly to avoid the "two gears at once" curse. A new Farmall owner should discover that arrangement later in life. Enjoy.
