I have just purchased a Super C and have much to learn, as this post will reveal. How do you change/adjust the belts? I see the generator is setup with a standard type slot adjustment. But, how do you adjust or change the fan belt. I don't see any similar type setup for this belt.

One other question. Is there any practical advantage to switch it over to 12V?

The fan and the fan bearing assembly that has the belt sheaves is mounted on a casting with a slotted hole. There should be a hex nut between the fan sheave assembly and the casting with the slotted hole. Loosen that and the fan should slide up and down to tighten/loosen the belts.

Bill, If your 6v system works than I would leave it alone. But changing to 12v will kill alot of birds with one stone. 12v will turn faster in cold weather and allow you to jump or be jumped by other 12v vehicles. If your system is not working the change over will give you a working system and rewire your old tractor at the same time. The parts are reliable and easily found at the local auto store. As far as the fan belt the fan should be mounted in a fork that the fan will slide up and down in when you lossen the bolt. Go to www.ytmag.com/articles/artint195.htm for the 12v swap

The starter/generator shop that I use has a kit to switch them over to 12 volts. Has a universal mounting bracket and the resistor that is required for the coil. You need a one wire alternator with the regulator built in. If there is a shop near you, they will likely have a rebuilt one of those too.
